Can RNY'ers get heartburn?

This may be a dumb question but I was awake at 4:00 this morning by burning pain. felt like i needed to burp but couldn't. I did have heartburn before surgery but have not had it (thank God) since so it was a shock this morning when I woke up with that burning pain. I was told since our pouches are not attached to the right things that there is no stomach acid to cause heartburn.

I really feel dumb having to ask this and I will see my doc tomorrow so hoping to get some Pepcid or something...Anything natural that have helped you out? Any advice is appreciated!

My understand was yes- it is still a possibility (I recall another post long ago about it).  Sorry- I havent experience this to give true advise.  Hope it calms down soon.  I hear it's another joy of pregnancy for some.

Yes I get it all he time since being pregnant. I have never had it before in my life. Then about 6 weeks ago I ate dairy and almost died. I thought I was having a heart attack. I get it alot now when I eat dairy. I take tums. Good Luck

We are leaning towards not finding out...still hadn't decided for real though lol We might get them to write it down and put it in an envelope and then if we cave we can still find out...just can't make up our minds lol

It is most definitely possible to get heartburn after RNY.  I got it a lot at the beginning of my pregnancy because I always wanted lemonade!  Pepcid is safe to take.  You can also eat Tums, but I found those never helped.
